Fence painting
Great paint. Used it for my corrugated iron fence and very easy to use and two coats a great finish. I used on my wooden gates which it soaked up a bit more so three coats was better but still looks great. Recommend and lovely colour

PRODUCT INFORMATION
DESCRIPTION:
Water based, acrylic, linseed oil modified roof paint incorporating modern day anti-corrosive and fungicidal protection technology.
PROPERTIES:
ROOFMAX hybrid oleoresinous system is a blend of an acrylic binder with linseed oil which has exceptional tolerance to imperfect surfaces compared to conventional acrylics (especially flaking surfaces) due to the special wicking/bonding ability of linseed oil. ROOFMAX dries to a low sheen finish with a high opacity giving excellent UV absorption and high durability.
PRINCIPAL USES:
ROOFMAX can be used as a primer, undercoat and finish coat.
ROOFMAX can be applied to galvanised steel, Zincalume®, aluminium, copper also wood and concrete surfaces such as roofs, spouting, fascias, garage doors and fences – please refer to “Preparation” before use.
If a previous paint film is cracking and flaking, ROOFMAX’s linseed oil can soak under and bind down the flaking edges and will create less film stress than a normal acrylic, thus reducing the forces that promote further flaking. However, if large parts of the old paint are ready to fail they will still remove the top coat if they peel. In such cases, thorough preparation along with water blasting is needed before applying the first coat of ROOFMAX.
Colorsteel® type product: A ROOFMAX Primer for Colorsteel® type products has been formulated as a primer for very smooth, baked surfaces where elevated adhesion is required. We recommend a priming coat of ROOFMAX Primer before the application of ROOFMAX. Please refer to “Preparation” before use.
Water Collection on Roofs: Suitable for the collection of water, but the roof surface must be “flushed” first. Disconnect roof downpipes until after the first significant shower of rain (10-15 mm) in order to flush away surplus wetting agents before the surface is used for the collection of drinking water.
COLOURS:
Cool Grey, Denim Grey, Deep Karaka, Earth Brown, Ferric Red, Magna Ironsand, Plantation Green, Steely Charcoal and Primer (Grey)
Note: Always colour test first to check your choice of ROOFMAX colour gives the result you want on the surface you are painting.
APPLICATION DATA - Surface Preparation:
All surfaces: - Must be sound, clean, dry and free from dirt, oil, grease, mould, moss, soot, salt, bird droppings and other contaminants.
Galvanised Iron & Zincalume®:
If mould or moss is present, pre-treat the surfaces in advance with a proprietary fungicidal product and leave for at least 2 weeks, then remove dead material and dirt by scraping, scrubbing or water blasting. Leave to dry.
Note: New galvanised iron and Zincalume® can have a water repellent surface. Leave the surface exposed to the elements for at least 3 months or use a suitable roof wash solution.
Colorsteel® Type Products:
If mould or moss is present, pre-treat the surfaces in advance with proprietary fungicidal product and leave for at least 2 weeks, then remove dead material and dirt by scraping, scrubbing or water blasting. Leave to dry.
We recommend the application of ROOFMAX Primer, followed 1 or 2 coats of ROOFMAX.
Concrete Roof Tiles:
If mould or moss is present, pre-treat the surfaces in advance with proprietary fungicidal product and leave for at least 2 weeks, then remove dead material and dirt by scraping or scrubbing. Leave to dry.
Porous Concrete Roof Tiles & Unsealed Terracotta Roof Tiles:
ROOFMAX works fine on these surfaces, but we do want to point out 2 main points to remember.
1st point is preparation: Weathered tile roofs are typically infested with mould, widespread lichen and moss growth. Removal of these is critical to achieving a successful long-term decorative paint system and to achieve this you need to treat, leave until it has died then remove. (If it is not treated and removed, they may feed on the linseed oil).
2nd point is that unsealed terracotta tiles and weathered concrete tiles need a seal coat of NOVEX Easy Seal Solvent Roof Glaze prior to applying two coats of ROOFMAX.
Timber Surfaces:
If mould or mildew is present, pre-treat the surfaces in advance with proprietary fungicidal product such as PREPMAX Timber Clean & Prep and leave for at least 2 weeks, then remove dead material and dirt by a low-medium pressure wash down and/or scrubbing. Leave to dry. For weathered, absorbent timber surfaces a primer such as AQUAMAX Clear Base or suitable matching colour, is recommended prior to the application of ROOFMAX.
Notes: Heavy water blasting is not recommended as it can “fluff” the timber surface, use a lowmedium pressure wash down and/or scrubbing.
Removal of any moss, mould,& lichen is critical to achieving a successful long-term decorative paint system and to achieve this you need to treat, leave until it has died then remove.
Treatment of Rust:
Areas of white rust must be removed by hand or power wire brushing. Red rust spots must be treated with a rust killer product or primer followed by the application of ROOFMAX. (All current rust treatments on the market which are currently recommended to be used under acrylic paints are suitable to use with ROOFMAX).
Treatment of Flaking Coating:
If a previous paint film is cracking and flaking, ROOFMAX’s linseed oil can soak under and bind down the flaking edges, However, if large parts of the old paint are ready to fail they will still remove the top coat if they peel. In such cases, scraping and/or water blasting is needed to ensure the majority of suspect areas are removed before applying the first coat of ROOFMAX.
APPLICATION:
Apply on a fine day. Avoid application if rain is forecast within 24 hours or the temperature is below 10°C or above 25°C. If applying to a roof, the substrate temperature will be greater than the air temperature and application to hot surfaces may be difficult due to rapid evaporation and may also produce an uneven finish.
Stir well before use, with a wide flat stirrer in a circulating “bottom to top” motion.
Apply with a good quality brush, roller or airless spray.
Two coats are recommended to give greater durability and protection to the surface.
Apply in strips (about 30 cm wide) along the full length of the corrugations so the paint overlaps align with the corrugation valleys to minimise shading.
Note: If the project requires more than one pail of product (especially different batches) it is good practice to add some of the new pail to the last of the old pail during application to ensure colour uniformity.
Touch Dry:
As a guide, ROOFMAX and ROOFMAX Primer will be touch dry in approximately 30 minutes.
Recoat:
ROOFMAX - leave to dry overnight before recoating. The ROOFMAX film will initially be soft but hardens over several days, as the linseed oil cures. (Even though the film may still be soft, other surfaces not walked on, can be recoated after 2 hours.)
ROOFMAX Primer - can be recoated after 2 hours as it hardens more rapidly.
Note: Drying and curing times will vary depending on temperature and humidity conditions at time of application. Some initial gloss/sheen variations may appear but will “even out” over a period of time as the oil cures. .
Clean-up:
ROOFMAX’S innovative formulation allows for water clean-up. Wash equipment with cold water, then to remove any oleoresinous residue, rinse with hot, soapy water eg laundry detergent.
Protect our Environment – When disposing of leftover liquid, keep out of stormwater drains and waterways. Take to a local hazardous waste disposal station. Dry all empty containers in a well ventilated area. Dispose of the empty containers according to your local council regulations.
